Student Affairs Team Spirit Award: Center for Student Involvement Team (Spring 2022)

Conor Leary and the entire Center for Student Involvement team that help staff the UWY front desk, Dawg House Student Lounge, and support events within the University Y Student Center have worked tirelessly throughout this year to provide high-quality service and programs to campus. Through Conor’s leadership, the team has taken on specific project teams: Dawg Bones, Discord, Learning & Training, Programming & Engagement, and a Social Media team. Each of these teams gives students more ownership and involvement in office initiatives. We’ve seen great returns already, including the growing success of the Dawg Bones program (meaning higher attendance and engagement with events), and an increase in followers on our social media.

The coordinators and assistants in the CSI keep our space open until 9 pm on weekdays, and the students in the Dawg House help ensure that the busy hub is clean, organized, and ready to answer questions from students. They also balance a lot of tasks and responsibilities at once – they are being aware of activities and people in the location they are working, doing hourly counts, checking out equipment, helping students find resources, answering the phones, responding to emails and online chats….the list goes on. They are versed in all aspects of our office and programs, but need to be aware of other campus resources, as they get asked about anything and everything!  

All that being said, the reason I feel they are deserving of the Team Spirit Award is that this team of students is often the first connection point that other students connect with in our spaces. They consistently provide a high level of customer service and are always acting as ambassadors and representatives of our department. They pitch in to help each other out, as well as the CSI staff. And they do it all with a positive attitude and smiles! I’m nominating them as a thank you for their hard work, and for recognition of all that they provide to our office and the Division.
